Questions before you try YEAR.

Plain answers about local indexing, screenshots, video transcription, privacy, pricing, and TestFlight.

What is YEAR?

YEAR is a local-first camera roll search app for iPhone. It helps you search text inside screenshots and spoken words inside selected videos.

Does YEAR upload my photos or videos?

No. YEAR does not upload your media to a YEAR server. The searchable index is built locally on your device.

Can YEAR search words spoken in videos?

Yes. YEAR can transcribe selected videos using Apple’s Speech framework and make spoken words searchable.

Can YEAR jump to the exact video moment?

Yes. Video matches include timestamps so you can jump to the matched moment.

Can YEAR search text inside screenshots?

Yes. YEAR uses Apple Vision OCR to index text inside selected screenshots and photos.

Does YEAR search objects like “black jacket”?

Not in v1 unless that text appears in the screenshot or transcript. Visual semantic search is planned later.

Is YEAR fully offline?

YEAR is local-first, but video transcription uses Apple’s Speech framework and may depend on device, language, and availability.

Is YEAR replacing Apple Photos?

No. YEAR is a focused search layer for remembered text, spoken words, screenshots, and exact video moments.

Does YEAR index my full camera roll automatically?

No. YEAR is designed around selected media and user-controlled indexing. Full-library workflows may be explored later.

Can I delete everything?

Yes. You can clear your local index and imported cache from Settings.

What is free?

The free version is planned to include 100 indexed items.
